What is a vehicle service?

A vehicle service is a routine maintenance inspection conducted by a certified mechanic or technician. The goal of a service is to examine the vehicle, replace any worn-out parts, and ensure that everything is functioning properly. Think of it as an annual check-up for your car. Regular maintenance helps to identify and address potential issues before they escalate into costly repairs.

What does a vehicle service include?

  • Check lights and indicators
  • Check for any lights on dash (advise client if scan required to clear)
  • Raise vehicle on hoist and drain oil
  • Change oil filter
  • Visually check brakes and brake hoses
  • Check tyre condition and tyre pressures. Rotate tyres if needed. Silicone tyres.
  • Remove and clean air filter. Replace air filter if needed.
  • Check fuel filter. Replace fuel filter.
  • Check all fluids including windscreen washer, reservoir, coolant, brake, clutch and power steer fluid
  • Check battery terminals and bonnet catch.
  • Check gearbox and diff oil levels and condition. 
  • Check radiator for damage
  • Check vacuum, air, fuel and coolant hoses
  • Check condition of engine drive belts and fan belts
  • Check wiper blades and windscreen washers
  • Lube door hinges and catches, including bonnet catch
  • Check for service light on dash and reset if required

How long does it take and how often should I get my service done?

  • Typically takes 45 mins to an hour for standard sized vehicles. Large trucks and vans require more than one hour.
  •  A service should be done every 10,000 kms or every 12 months. This also depends on the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements.

Vehicles first registered anywhere in the world on or after 1 January 2000 require a WOF check every 12 months. On the other hand, all vehicles registered anywhere in the world before 1st January 2000 require a WOF check every six months.

    • The current WOF certificate, if you have one.
    • Any relevant repair or service history.
    • Payment for the inspection fee.
